Whether writing your cover letter or writing your CV, the STAR method could be the way to go. The STAR method is a great way of forcing you to write a detailed response to the selection criteria of a role.
Use examples to demonstrate your skills and experience. Where have you used initiative? What action did you take to achieve a goal? What obstacles did you face and how did you overcome them? This shows the employer your dedication to your line of work, and can be a good indication of whether you are the right fit for a role.
STAR – Situation Task Action Results
Situation: What was your role? Outline the situation.
Task: What tasks needed to be completed? What goal needed to be achieved? Were there any obstacles?
Action: What action or steps did you take? How did you overcome obstacles?
Results: What was the outcome? What skills did you acquire? Did you learn any lessons?
Note: when using this method, you should not be writing the headings, but writing a paragraph that follows this guide.
