This is one step that many job seekers oversee - follow up with the company you applied too!
Don't worry about feeling like your being annoying or being a nuisance to the company - this is an extra step that can assist you greatly & may even result in you getting a job. A few days after applying give the company a call to see if they have received your application, if you leave a message for them over the phone, send them a quick email.
By doing this you are being proactive & putting yourself out there. It also gives you a competitive edge, as a lot of people who apply for jobs don't take this step.
