How long has it been since you have had a good old fashioned brainstorming session? It is a simple yet very effective way to implement improvements in the workplace.
The EBR team like to brainstorm ideas on how to improve on previous months. It works by focusing on an idea, and then deliberately as a team and coming up with as many solutions as possible.
Suggestions for a brainstorming session;
- Take the team approach, organise daily, weekly or monthly team meetings
- Use flip charts or whiteboards
- Begin the meeting with a key word making it the starting point of generating ideas. Eg; Fun at work, brainstorm, client meetings, positive.
- Set time limits for your brainstorming session, aim for a short period (15 minutes) otherwise it will become a time for chit-chat and gossip
- Make team brainstorming fun! For example, get everyone to stand on one leg while brainstorming for 5 minutes
- Use brainstorming sessions as a team building activity
- Recognise and reward good outcomes from a brainstorming session
