Burnout is an extremely common problem to encounter when working under pressure for a long period of time. Now that the majority of our work is online, this applies more than ever. Without the outside world to stimulate and push us through our work, you can find that you suffer from burnouts much more easily. Below are a number of ways that you can deal with burnout and recover from it.
1. Surround yourself with a network of ambitious individuals: Whether it be a group of friends, co-workers or peers, surrounding yourself with those who are constantly motivated can help you too. Looking at the people around you working hard can inspire you to recover from your burnout. Additionally, when in need of some wise words, talking to and messaging these people is usually beneficial in that they can spread positive energy to you.
2. Take a break: Take a break from your work for a couple of days (if you have the luxury to). In these couple of days, make sure to recuperate by exercising, eating well and performing your hobbies so you can feel refreshed and ready to work after your break. Take a break from all forms of social media and technology, and focus on things that can help you recuperate mentally.
3. Make a schedule: Listing out your deadlines and the days you have to complete tasks can be extremely helpful as you no longer stress about urgency. Take your time to finish your tasks according to a schedule, so you don't have to last-minute your work. This can dramatically decrease burnout and also help prevent burnout in the future.
4. Get enough sleep: While this may seem obvious, sleep is vital to your mental health. You are less likely to become mentally exhausted and burnt out if you are resting well and have plenty of energy to work. According to the American Institute of psychology, adults should aim for between 7-9 hours of sleep every night in order to maintain a healthy level of stress. Make sure your sleep schedule is also consistent, and the quality of your sleep is good. You can download apps on your mobile device that track your sleep and evaluate the quality, like Sleep Cycle.
Because it's so easy to lose your motivation under stress and self-isolation, Team EBR hopes that these tips have helped you in regaining your energy. If things get too hard, you can always visit counselling services online, such as BeyondBlue, to get help and advice. EBR wishes you the best of luck in these hard times.
