Job interviews can be already stressful for everyone. Extroverts with great confidence can make such an impressive charisma. But for introverts, self-promoting can be challenging. But hey, let's look at the bright side of being an introvert; you are great listeners and observers. Being an introvert doesn't mean you are less qualified, successful CEOs like Bill Gates have labelled themselves as introverts (Entrepreneur 2019). Therefore, you just need a bit more practices to ace your interview. Here are a few powerful tips:
1.Prepare and practice!
For us, interaction isn't our strength; therefore, the best way to build your confidence is planning ahead. Before your interview, research and learn everything about the company, gather as much information about the role you are applying for. Get yourself familiar with some questions that you may be asked, practice and rehearse until you are comfortable. The more you practice, the more confident you feel.Â
2.Get ready for small talk
Small talks can be a bit awkward for introverts; however, sometimes it can help to build a connection with the employer. Make sure you prepare a few casual subjects in advance; it can be a comment on the weather or some good place in town.Â
3.Don't forget your non-verbal language
Even how nervous you are, maintaining a straight posture can give you that confident look. Do what you do best- listening and show that you are engaged and attentive. If you have some nervous behaviours such as biting your nails, make sure that you are aware of that and avoid it at all costs.
4.Prepare a self-pitch
Knowing how to sell yourself is crucial, you may get the question like ' Tell us about yourself' in the beginning. This is when you have to let them know why you deserve this role. Note some of the qualities required for the role that you have, illustrate and highlight them to the interviewer together with your relevant experience. Practice your pitch at home as much as you feel confident.
5.Ask question
Note down what you want to know more about the role before the interview and ask the employers. Not only this allows you to make conversation, but also it shows how you really want to do the job well. And for most employers, a ' no' for the question ' do you have any questions?' often a negative mark. Therefore, feel free to ask questions if you are not clear.
Overall, interviews can be terrifying for anyone, introverts or extroverts. Therefore, keep our tips in mind and nail your interview with confidence!
