Job searching isn't easy, especially during this current time, becoming more competitive than ever. Therefore, it's imperative to find a way to stand out. In our last EBR blog, we discussed the benefits of a personal website. Thanks to the evolved digital age, we can now leverage technology to catch the recruiter's attention and land a new job. Here are a few tips to build a killer portfolio website:

  • Showcase your personal branding

Remember that the website is your online real estate, make sure that every element on the site can showcase who you are. You don't have to be an expert to build a website, there are many portfolio website templates and designs that you can start with. But don't let these templates define you, customize these sites and sprinkle with your personality.

  • Display your best works first

Not every recruiter has the time to see all the works you put on the website. Therefore, prioritize all the best works that you want to impress and catch the attention of the recruiters, on the very first page.

  • Easy to navigate

Make sure that your website is clear, easy to navigate and works on both mobile and browsers. Establish different categories and tags so the viewers have a better understanding of your portfolio

  • Think like a viewer

Put yourself in the shoes of your viewer and ask yourself: 'how do I optimize my contents to portray what my viewers want to see?'. Using a website analytic tool is a great idea to have a deeper understanding of your audience and what contents they are more interested in.

  • Add in your bio

Besides showcasing your work as a professional, you should also include a bio to let your audiences know who you are as a person and your mission.

Include this on an About or Bio page. Many recruiters want to know about your personality besides your works.

  • Ensure your contact details are easy to find

Include various methods to contact you. When a recruiter has come to your site, obviously they want to learn more about the person behind the resume. So turn on the green light and allow them to reach you.
