Writing a solid bulletproof resume can greatly increase your chance of landing that dream job. Creating an excellent resume is an art of highlighting your professional skills, along with a bit of personality that make you stand out as a potential candidate.
Here are our top tips to write an effective resume:
- Keywords
Most companies now use digital databases for their recruiting process. Therefore, remember to sprinkle industry-specific keywords and use noun phrases to match to the job description you are applying for.
- Share accomplishments
Besides sharing your responsibilities of the job, include 70% your accomplishments. If possible, qualify your achievement along with employee testimonies. Don't forget that if you want to show true accomplishments and achievements to indicate your level of skill, include in your resume, any actual numbers or percentages of any results or targets you have achieved.
- Choose a readable template
Ensure that your resume is readable on a computer as well as phone. Stick to the most common, clean and simple fonts. Some fonts may look very good on the computer but unreadable on the phone. Also, use bullet points instead of long paragraphs. Recruiters may have hundreds of resumes; therefore, they may not have enough time to read long paragraphs of texts.
- Use power words
This means use proactive action verbs such as 'achieved, earned or accomplished'. Power verbs like this will really help to sell yourself and clearly communicate your achievement.
- Tailor your resume for each job description
Even though you are applying for the same job position. Each company has their own requirement for the role. Therefore, alter your resume to match the job description for each company.
